Harvest mela of cultured Kappa seaweed was organised by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) Tuticorin at Mullakadu Coast, Thoothukudi District on 14th August 2018. The programme was conducted under the National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA project) and was aimed to combat the effect of climate change through seaweed farming as well as to generate an alternative source of income for the farmers. seaweed farmers and entrepreneurs of Thoothukudi district attended the function and shared their experiences. The farmers claimed to have produced 10 tonnes of wet weight from the single monoline plot (100 numbers of monolines) within a month. The net revenue gain achieved was about Rs. 35, 00040, 000/- per crop fetching Rs. 5/ kg for wet seaweed and Rs. 40 per kg for dried seaweed with 30% moisture level.
