The ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai and the Department of Fl%hertes, Guprat have Signed an MOU on 5th September, 2018 for the sustainable development of brackishwater aquaculture in Gujarat. Dr. K. K. Vijayan, Director. CIBA and Shri. Mohammed Shahid (IAS), Commissioner of Fisheries, Department of Fisheries, Gujarat signed the MOU in the presence of Shri. R. C. Faldu, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Agriculture, Rural Development, Fisheries. Animal Husbandry and Transport, Government of Gujarat.
This partnership is aimed at utilising the untapped potential for aquaculture by developing appropriate brackishwater aquaculture production systems and location specific farming practices suitable for the state. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vijayan. opined that the state of Gujrat with its huge brackishwater resource spread across the 1600 km of coastline, could make significant progress in the fish production through brackishwater aquaculture. Already CIBA is partnering with the state in the promotion of shnmp farming and cage farming of brackishwater finfish with seed and feed technologies of CIBA.
