The Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) had developed an Electronic Data Acquisition System (e-DAS) to capture fish catch data from reservoirs (through SMS from mobile phones) directly into a database in the computer system. The system had been successfully trial-implemented in selected reservoirs of three stated on India namely Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand, prior to its demonstration.
The institute also organized a training programme on the data system on 18th June 2018, in collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Federation at Bhopal. During the demo training programme, the feasibility of the collection Tilapia catch and its length frequency data from Halali reservoir was carried out for stock assessment. The training also included a preliminary site selection survey for pen culture in Indira Sagar, besides the habitat, biodiversity and fisheries survey at Sardar Sarovar reservoir.
