A three – day national conference entitled “Improving Income of Farmers through Agriculture and Aquaculture through Development Interventions” was organized by the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, in association with the Society of Krishi Vigyan, Punjab, from 5-7 January, 2018 at CIFA, Bhubaneswar. The Conference dwelt with the importance of the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) and extension system of the country in transfer of technologies to increase the farmer’s income. The dearth in proper outreach programmes to disseminate the developed technologies to the small and marginal farmers were highlighted during the conference. Various technical sessions ranging from topics of innovation in agricultural development and social studies, technology assessment, refinement and dissemination, climate change, organic farming, natural resource management, agricultural enterprises and aquaculture were discussed during the conference.
The event served as a platform for the agriculture and aquaculture professionals to devise strategies for increasing income of farmers. Mrs. Usha Rani,IAS, DG, National Institute for Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, inaugurated the event. While the chief guest emphasised the need to devise mechanisms for faster reach of technology to the farmers, Dr. J. K. Sundaray, Director, ICAR-CIFA emphasised the importance of scientific communication to the farmers. Dr. P. Routray, Co-Convenor, Dr. Manoj Sharma, Dr. N. K. Barik, Dr. P. N. Ananth of ICAR-CIFA as National organising secretaries moderated and coordinated the conference. The conference has brought a 10 point recommendation on the strategies of KVKs and extension agencies for benefitting the farmer.
