Kerala government fillip to breeding of indigenous fish

The Fisheries department will promote breeding of indigenous fish varieties in inland water bodies in the state with the help of Central Institute of Brackish water Aquaculture. A meeting held on Tuesday charged out various projects in the regard.

Most of the projects are coming up in Kollam anĀ  Thiruvananthapuram. Shrimp feed factory at Kollam and Kannur, shrimp seed farm at Neendakara and Thiruvanathapuram, seed farms for Milk Fish, Sea Bass fish varieties at Kollam and Thiruvanathapuram are some of the projects on the cards.

Minister for Fisheries J Mercykutty Amma said the projects would cost Rs.15croce and provision been made in the budget regarding this. Techn0ology will be provided to the state by the Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture.
