Feed constitute more than of 60% of the production cost and efficiency in the feed use has a strong bearing on the cost-benefit ratio of the aquaculture operation. In order to reduce the cost of feed, it has become imperative to look for low cost, locally available alternate sources of feed ingredients. The All India Network Project on fish feed has conducted a survey to map the available of alternate feed ingredients. Several low cost local available feed ingredients have been studied and their optimum incorporation levels have been reported. More research thrust is needed on brood stock and larval nutrition so that species specific brood feed and larval feed can be developed for diversified fish and shell fish species.
